Nokia’s MeeGo to take on Android, iPhone
There was a good article today in Fierce Developer where they interviewed Valtteri Halla, Director of Nokia’s MeeGo effort, about his thoughts about Nokia’s MeeGo to take on Android, iPhone.
He talks about the vision of the MeeGo platform, positioning of MeeGo and Symbian and where MeeGo may be in two to three years.
When asked about fragmentation between Symbian and MeeGo, Halla says:
“No, we aren’t worried about fragmentation. Although it’s true that Symbian and MeeGo are different platforms in their own right. Both are different platforms. But we’re both using, in Symbian and MeeGo, similar technologies as we go forward, and the APIs are based on the Qt developer toolkit and API, and the Qt SDK, so that provides a really broad basis of commonality between the two platforms. So application developers can download the Qt SDK, create applications, and then have some of those running even as such on both platforms. … Qt is providing a fair degree of commonality.”
