FaceTime not Ringing in iOS 15 on iPhone and iPad? Quick Solution

Many iPhone and iPad owners are claiming that FaceTime does not ring. FaceTime issues are uncommon now that Apple has improved the software for stability and performance. A tiny change in the setting may cause a minor error, which can be resolved by using the official solution. Minor faults and glitches in newer iOS releases can cause such FaceTime difficulties. We have offered official solutions that you can use without compromising your device’s security or data.

Why is FaceTime not Ringing on iPhone and iPad

Here are some of the possible and common reasons why your FaceTime might not be working on iPhone and iPad.

FaceTime Blocked by Firewall

Usually, the FaceTime issue occurs when you have a Firewall installed on your iOS device. It might be blocking the ports of FaceTime from functioning properly. For FaceTime to function properly, there must be multiple ports open like 80 (TCP), 5223 (TCP), etc., The list of all these ports can be found on the official Apple website.

Might be an issue with the Date and Time

Since FaceTime is a native iOS app, it works well only when the settings of your iPhone and iPad are right. Sometimes FaceTime might throw an error if the date and time are not set properly. So, make sure to check if the date and time on your iOS time is set right or not.

Poor Internet Connection

If the settings are proper but FaceTime is not Ringing on iPhone or iPad, then one of the possible reasons might be the poor internet connection. FaceTime requires a good internet speed for quality video and audio calls. If there is no 4G/VoLTE option in your area, then it might be one of the issues with FaceTime not ringing.

Apple ID Authentication

FaceTime requires Apple ID authentication to work on iOS devices. Make sure to log in with your Apple ID on the iOS device and authenticate, before trying to use FaceTime.

How to fix FaceTime not ringing when calling on iPhone and iPad

Due to the latest software updates, there might be many unknown bugs and errors that might be causing the FaceTime issue on your iPad and iPhone. To fix this issue once for all, we have covered all possible methods to detect and fix the FaceTime issue step-by-step.

Maybe a problem with the Speaker

If you don’t hear any sound or ringing tone from FaceTime on an iPad or iPhone, then you must follow the below-mentioned steps.

  • Firstly, check the sound settings of your iPad or iPhone. In case your device has a ring/silent switch, turn it towards the display so that the orange indicator goes off. Also, make sure that the device is not in silent mode. You can do that by going to ‘Control Center‘ on your device and disabling it. Also, make sure that the ‘Do Not Disturb‘ mode is off.
  • Check if your receiver and speaker are functioning properly. If there is dust or dirt stuck on the speakers and microphone, you will not be able to receive calls properly on FaceTime. If you find an iPhone speaker having dirt or blocked by anything, take a soft-bristled brush and clean it.
  • If you find there is an issue with the sound settings on your device, it is recommended to navigate to Settings > Sounds and then keep toggling the alerts and ringer option till you hear a sound. In case the alert slider is dimmed, it means that there is an issue with your phone or iPad speaker.
  • In case you hear the sound after toggling in the settings section, then call from your other phone to your iPhone and turn on the speaker. If you are unable to hear the sound on FaceTime despite doing this, then the issue might be with the network connection.

Setting up a Ringtone for FaceTime

If you forgot to assign a ringtone to your FaceTime, there might be issues with the sound even then. To fix this issue, follow the below-mentioned process.

  • Go to the Settings > Notifications > FaceTime.
  • Click on the option ‘Sounds‘ and then continue.
  • Now, select a ringtone for FaceTime.

Before selecting the ringtone, tap on the tone and listen to the preview on the speaker. In case you are able to hear the sound, it means FaceTime is working absolutely fine. Now, assign the tone and try to make a FaceTime call from another device.

Blocked FaceTime Notifications

FaceTime notifications are by default shown on the banner. In case it is disabled, you will not receive any notifications or calls/rings from FaceTime. To check if the FaceTime notifications are blocked, follow the below process.

  • Tap Settings > Notifications > FaceTime.
  • Now, click on the “Allow Notifications” option and see all the alert modes. In case, if all the alert modes are on, you will get the ring and notifications.

Make Sure you have a Good Internet Connection

To receive calls/rings properly on FaceTime, make sure you have a stable internet connection. FaceTime requires a speedy internet connection (like 4G/5G) to create secure video and voice calls.

  • Firstly, make sure that you have a good internet connection in your area.
  • Next, navigate to Settings on your phone > go to Mobile Data options, select “Voice and Data,” and click on continue.
  • Now, choose the 4G option and turn on “VoLTE” for good speed. In case if “VoLTE” option is not available, only select 4G.

In case, if your device is still not getting a proper internet connection, reset it. You can do that by following the steps below.

  • Go to Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
